2005 NAVAJO SANTA GOES TO SCHOOL A FANTASTIC SUCCESS!
September 9, 2005

Aneth, UT. — Our second Navajo Santa Goes To School delivery was a fantastic success! Navajo Santa delivered backpacks filled with school supplies to 170 children of the Aneth Community School. Coats, donated by The Sundance Institute and NBC's
Today Show were given to each child and school staffer in preparation for a the cold weather ahead. The Eye Care for Kids Fountation generously tested the eyesight of 95 children. Roughly 80% were found to be in need of glasses, which the foundation will provide. Five basketball standards, gifts of Phil Mickey and Lifetime, were distributed in the community.

Students were greatly entertained by the spirited antics of The Bear, mascot of the Utah Jazz. The Bear's presence was as important to this school delivery as Santa Claus is to our Christmas delivery.

We'd like to thank Navajo Santa board member Ann Johnson who spearheaded this effort as well as: Joseph Carbone, Dr. Scott DeVous, Gale and Linda Stradley and Dr. Richard Willis of the Eye Care For Kids Foundation; Dennis and Emily Lyman of KJZZ Television; Luke Larsen, Phil Johnson of the Utah Jazz; and Phil Mickey and Lifetime. We especially want to thank the First Lady of the Navajo Nation, Vikki Shirley, for her interest and support in our work and, of course, the Bear!
